About the workshop

This ‘hands on’ part-experiential, part-didactic workshop, now in its 16th year, caters for counsellors, psychotherapists, educators, pastoral carers and other professionals working with children. Incorporating the arts in therapy with children offers an ‘experience near’ vehicle for self-expression that aids relational exploration of issues, fosters resilience and enhances wellbeing.

Rooted in Gestalt therapy theory the course draws inspiration from the projective arts approach of eminent Gestalt child and adolescent psychotherapist Dr Violet Oaklander (see Windows to Our Children (also available in Hebrew) and Hidden Treasure: A Map to the Child’s Inner Self) as well as ideas from Attachment and Systemic theories. It will also interest those wishing to explore their own relationship with creativity or play.

The group will experience first hand working with:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • clay
  • sand tray
  • music-making
  • haiku
  • movement
  • drama
